Good
Shepherd is located in the upper Kanawha Valley just at
the mouth of the Kanawha River.
Only four miles from Montgomery, WV and 25 minutes from our state
Capitol.
This
small community has parishioners coming from neighboring towns to
attend Good Shepherd.
Having
been present in the community since the 1900’s.
Good Shepherd’s outreach
ministry began at the turn of
the century, as a Hospital known as the Sheltering arms.
This Hospital catered to
the coal mining community . As
the mining industry left the area. The
Sheltering arms closed down.
During
World War II the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church was built in Hansford, WV
the only Church to be built during the war.
The
church was built to be an outreach ministry to those in need.
